The file in wordpress called wp-cron.php does not handle cron jobs for wordpress very efficiently and if you are finding that its the cuase of resource abuse, we recommend the following that you add the following line into yourwp-config.php file: define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true);
Then just run a ron job voa cpanel every 4 hours.
