My Web Site is Down! Am I blocked?

My website appears to be down! Whats happened?

You are reading this article because you have typed in your domain name into your web browser and you are not seeing your web site.

There could be a myriad of reasons for this but we are listing the one that we see quite a bit with various clients.

Our firewall has probably temporarily blocked you

YES, WE ARE CALLED UK CHEAP HOSTS, but unlike most hosts, we are NOT CHEAP on security!

For the protection of the server and for your data to stop malicious users trying to dictionary hack or perform malicious actions against your account, we run several dynamic firewalls which activate themselves when you try to access the server using wrong credentials OR when certain parameters are sent through the browser to your web site.

For example, if you try and login to cpanel, ftp, wordpress, joomla, email and use the wrong credentials more than a few times, the firewall will temporarily "shun" all access to the server for 30 minutes meaning that you wont be able to see the web site, cpanel webmail, pop, smtp or ftp services.

Basically you are locked out for appx 30 minutes or so.

To test to see if you have been blocked you can try a couple of simple tests.
1. try to view the cpanel login by going to www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. If you cannot see the login page at all, then its a good chance you are blocked.

2. try to view your web site by typing www.yourdomain.com. If you cannot see the web site at all and you get a browser connection error, then its a good chance you are blocked.

3. try to login with ftp. If the ftp does not connect, then its a good chance you are blocked.

4. go to www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com and type in your domain name. If it says "its just you", then there is a good chance you are blocked.

So, what to do in the case you think you have been blocked?
If you believe you are blocked, then you need to contact us and we will check the firewalls for your ip and remove the block.

1. We will need your ip address*. Just go to www.ukcheaphosts.com/ip and copy the ip address

2. open a support ticket by either logging into ukcheaphosts.com/support and starting a ticket or send an email to support@ukcheaphosts.com

* when you raise a support ticket through the online system, we capture your ip right away.
